Most of this gold belongs to the Central Bank of Yemen in addition to private gold and jewelry stores belonging to citizens in armed robberies.
These measures came less than one month from robing money from the safes of the Central Bank of Yemen in Al-Hodeida and transferring them to Sanaa by Al-Houthis.
Al-Hasan Al-Taher, governor of Al-Hodeida, said: “according to authenticated information, Al-Houthis chose the best time during Ramadan and the truce to smuggle amounts of gold to Sanaa using the northern part of the city away from the eyes of joint troops”.
He added: “the city is now near bankruptcy as no money left in it for daily use in addition to robbery. This will lead to a very poor economic situation, severe lack in major goods and lack of income in addition to high rates of crime”.
He asserted that Al-Houthis will use this gold to pay for mercenaries and fortify their defenses in addition to training children for military combat and increasing bank accounts of militia leaders.
He also indicated that Al-Houthis are deploying military troops inside the city in preparation for military confrontations in addition to digging trenches and deploying snipers.
