Ben Brik Chairs Meeting of Assembly’s Administrative Body

Major General Ahmed Saeed Ben Brik, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, on Sunday, chaired the periodic meeting of the Administrative Body of the National Assembly, in the presence of Dr. Anis Luqman, deputy chairman of the Assembly.

At the beginning of the meeting, which was attended by the head and members of the Internal Southern National Dialogue Team (ISNDT), Major General Ben Brik reviewed the political and military situation and the orientations of the leadership of the STC both in the current and upcoming stage.

Major General Ahmed Saeed indicated to the rapid pace of the popular movement of the people of the South in all governorates, especially Hadramaut and Almahra governorates, as an expression of their categorical rejection of the military presence and militarizing civil life by forces of the North, as well as an expression of cohesiveness of southerners towards the goals and aspirations of the people of the South.

The meeting referred to the military developments and operations to eradicate terrorist organizations and those who support them, lauding the role of the southern forces in confronting the fierce military attacks in the “Arrows of the East and Arrows of the South” military operations and achieving great and remarkable victories, despite all the encountering difficulties.

The meeting applauded the success of the peaceful demonstrations of the people of the governorates of Almahra and Hadhramaut, denouncing non-implementation of the outcomes of the Riyadh Agreement and its Consultations, affirming that we are going through a transitional stage and the upcoming stage is definitely pivotal and it requires concerted efforts, cohesiveness and rapprochement.

For his part, the head of the ISNDT, Dr. Saleh Mohsen Al-Haj, gave a satisfied explanation of their activities, goals, tracks, and steps as a continuation of prior efforts to converge the views and find a common political consensus to achieve aspirations of the people of the South.

The meeting confirmed that we are approaching a new stage, in which dialogue should be the main course, praising the extensive measures taken by the ISNDT, as it has become a necessity for the South and it must be its driving intellectual and political approaches as an alternative to conflict and violence.

The meeting stood before the need to mobilize all southern forces to achieve cohesiveness and to face the current challenges. The meeting also reiterated the need to complete the remaining provisions of the Riyadh Agreement, especially the transferring of the military forces from Almahra and the Valley of Hadramout to the fighting fronts.

Furthermore, the attendees denounced the government’s procrastination in meeting people’s needs and alleviating their distress, in addition to its lack of inspection, auditing, and any action plan to improve the living conditions of citizens, which contributed to the spread of corruption and drug smuggling.

The meeting lauded the efforts made by the ISNDT within the overall framework of the Southern National Dialogue both at home and abroad.

To the end of its meeting, the members of the administrative body raised many remarks and various views on the latest developments, further to approving suggestions that can lead to boost and upgrade the workflow of the STC, accelerate the process of dialogue, strengthen cohesiveness, and expand national partnership with the goal of restoring the independent and sovereign state of the South with its internationally recognized borders on May 21, 1990.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Ahmed Qassem, Office Director of the Chairman of the National Assembly.
