Ben Brik Meets Head of National Assembly for Scientific Research

Major General Ahmed Saeed Ben Brik, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), met, on Thursday, with Dr. Thabet Salem Al-Azab, head of the National Assembly for Scientific Research.
In the meeting, which was attended by Dr. Anis Luqman, deputy chairman of the Assembly, Dr. Thabet Al-Azab reviewed the work activity of the National Assembly concerned with scientific research, qualifying and training youths in the fields of scientific research, referring to approaching the date of holding a training course on composting organic fertilizer, which will target 80 co-farmers in Abyan Delta, as a first stage, in the field of manufacturing eco-friendly fertilizers using local methods in the delta, with the aim of forming a basic step in superseding chemical fertilizers and reducing the use of pesticides that have harmful effects on soil, groundwater, animals and the health of citizens, as well as to the overall economy of the South, stressing that organic fertilizers have advantages like clean environment and risk-reduction on human health, as Abyan is the food basket of the capital Aden.
Dr.Thabet Al-Azab mentioned of the ongoing process by a preparatory committee in creating a guide for home farming to ensure food security and avoid harmful pesticides, stressed that the strategic goal is to achieve food security, as part of the country’s national security system.
Major General Ben Brik lauded the activities and efforts of the committee to ensure food security and protect the environment by reducing chemical fertilizaters and recycling organic waste in the agriculture, noting that the STC encourages and supports such effective activities maintaining community health.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Maarouf Ibrahim Oqba, chief advisor of the National Assembly for Scientific Research, Eng. Fayyad Faisal, Secretary of the public Relations in the Committee, and Colonel Najm Abdullah, Security Officer in the Assembly of the STC.
