Ben Brik Receives ICRC Regional Director in Near and Middle East
SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
Major General Ahmed Saeed Ben Brik, Vice President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), met on Saturday in the capital, Aden, with Mr. Fabrizio Carboni, Regional Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Near and Middle East.
In the beginning of the meeting, the Vice President of the STC welcomed the Regional Director of the ICRC and his accompanying team, highlighted standing with the peace process and its steps with keenness not to affect the entitlements of the people of the South, and explained that the presence of the STC within the legitimacy is to develop a special framework for the South in the upcoming negotiations.
The Vice President continued, saying that within the endeavors of the UN envoy, the coalition, and the quartet in finding peace, there are seven fronts witnessing fierce battles with the Houthis, in addition to sending terrorist elements to the South and supporting them with equipment and drones. Ben Brik indicated that in light of the facilities given to the Houthis in aviation and ports, 90% of the population in Aden faces dire humanitarian and service shortages, and the displacement from North Yemen and Africa exacerbates this suffering.
For his part, Mr. Carboni expressed his happiness at this meeting, offering thanks for the good reception, hoping for all success in the peace negotiations, which will positively reflect on the situation of citizens and reduce their living and service suffering, pointing out that the ICRC will remain in the country to bear the burden despite the reduction of budgets for all international and global organizations, and appreciating the STC’s support for the ICRC, which seeks, within its work, to increase focus on the issue of mines on the frontlines.
