Chairman of the General Association for Eco-Preservation Meets ALCIRA UNESCO Commission to Discus Maintaining Socotra on the International Heritage List
[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Socotra – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] Chairman of the general association of eco-preservation, Dr. Abd Al-Kader Al-Kharraz, met the ALCIRA – UNESCO commission headed by Nada Al-Hasan. The meeting discussed preparations for the mission agreed upon recently in Bahrain to form an international team to evaluate the status of Socotra, the team missions and duration of its work. The meeting also discussed the current status of the island and the importance of field visits before the meeting to discuss enlisting Socotra on the International Heritage List, in addition to the effects of weather changes including hurricanes.
In a press release, Dr. Al-Kharaz indicated that the meeting came as part of enforcing the decisions of ALCIRA UNESCO to visit Socotra and work together to maintain bio-diversity on the island to maintain it on the International Heritage List through joint work with the general association of eco-preservation. A preliminary date for the visit was established by March 2019.
