Chairman of the National Assembly Meets New Chairman of IRC in Yemen and Honors its Former Chairman in Aden
[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Aden – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] General Ahmed Said Ben Brik, chairman of the Southern National Assembly and member of the Southern Transitional Council’s presidency, met Mr. France Rochtenstein, the new head of ICRC delegation in Yemen, Mrs. Carmen Ashtaritha, head of ICRC in Aden and Mr. Carlos Batias, former head of ICRC in Yemen.
General Ben Brik welcomed the new delegation and expressed the greetings of president Aidarous Al-Zubaidi to them. He also appreciated the efforts of ICRC in Aden and other southern governorates through their projects and the efforts of its former head Mr. Carlos Batias, during his work in the country.
Ben Brik also expressed the willingness of the Southern Transitional Council to create a greater partnership with ICRC through the commission’s programs for training in addition to programs of rehabilitating health care sector and care for the war injured. He added that the council hopes for a bigger humanitarian role from ICRC in this context. He also asserted that the council will work on coordinating efforts to prepare suitable conditions for the work of the commission with full respect to Humanitarian International Law.
Heads of ICRC in Yemen and Aden asserted that the commission is eager to provide humanitarian services under these critical conditions in cooperation with the authority and conflicting parties so as to provide citizens with necessary humanitarian needs and respecting Humanitarian International Law according to ICRC principles.
General Ben Brik expressed his thanks and appreciation of the efforts of the former head of ICRC delegation in Yemen during his work from 2007 till 2018. Dr. Anis Lockman, vice chairman of the Southern National Assembly, Mohamed Al-Ghaithi, vice chairman of foreign affairs department of the Southern Transitional Council, Dr. Salem Al-Shubhi, chairman of health care commission of the national assembly, Dr. Gawad Mekkawy, assistant secretary of the administrative commission, Hadeel Samir, assistant of ICRC head in Aden and Mohamed Muria, translator of department of protection of ICRC in Aden, attended the meeting.
