Chairman of the National Assembly praises the role of ICRC delegation in the South

Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council, praised the activity and role of the International Committee of the Red Cross and its unlimited support in all service sectors, humanitarian, relief and awareness issues in the capital, Aden, and the other southern governorates, this came during his meeting at the Assembly’s headquarters, with Ms. Beatrice Oxley, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the capital, Aden.
The Chairman of the National Assembly stressed that the Southern Transitional Council was, is, and will remain with stopping the war and achieving peace and stability in the south and the entire region.
In his speech, Major General Ahmed Saeed touched on the suffering of the people of the south as a result of the war of services being waged against them by the Muslim Brotherhood, which hijacked the legitimacy decision, stressing that about 85% of the population is on the brink of starvation.
In an intervention by Dr. Salem Al-Shabhi, Head of the Health and Environment Committee in the National Assembly, he presented a brief overview of the general health situation and the shortage of nursing staff in the capital’s hospitals, as well as the work of health quarantines and the role of ICRC in contributing to the recovery of the public health situation.
For her part, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the capital, expressed thanks to Major General Bin Brik for the good reception and for the continuous efforts of the Southern Transitional Council in supporting the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross mission, stressing that the mission continues to provide its services and activities in the issues that the Yemeni crisis suffers from.
Ms. Oxley pointed out that the mission’s work activity is to visit prisoners and detainees in prisons, in order to see whether the standards of detention match international law standards, in addition to the possibilities of interfering in covering their needs and providing them with aids.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Major General Bin Brik stressed on providing all facilities to the Red Cross mission, including facilitating field visits to prisoners on the front lines of the conflict with Al-Houthi.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Qassem, Director of the National Assembly Speaker’s Office, and Bahaa Hassan Al-Salami, Assistant Head of Mission and Political Advisor.
