Chairman of the Southern National Assembly: Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen Wanted to Turn Socotra into a Den of ISIS and Al-Qaeda but We Exhausted their Plans

[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Adan – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] General Ahmed Said Ben Brik, chairman of the national assembly of the southern transitional council, uncovered the details of recent events in Socotra, a newly established southern governorate that was previously part of Hadhramaut. In a phone call with Sputnik agency on Saturday May 5th, 2018, Ben Brik indicated that the Reform Party, the political arm of Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen, in cooperation with Turkey and Qatar, tried to use the current conflicts in Yemen to bring military units loyal to them in addition to foreign militias from Somalia, loyal to ISIS and Al-Qaeda, into Socotra. Chief of staff of the first military zone was responsible to form a new military brigade to control the airport, seaport and other vital facilities in the governorate, according to orders issued by General Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar, vice president of Yemen. The airport and seaport are the terminal through which terrorist militias are to be brought into Socotra to eliminate Socotra Elites Brigades, trained and armed by UAE support. Ben Brik indicated that Socotra Elites observed such movements for a while until the visit of prime minister Ahmed Ben Daghar to Socotra as this visit was to legitimize the existence of such troops in Socotra. Socotra people demonstrated against Ben Daghar in front of his residence and sieged the place demanding Ben Daghar to leave. Socotra elites, at the same time, controlled the airport and seaport that were previously run by a brigade of the second military zone (loyal to president Hady’s government). This raised the anger of the government as they lost their control over these two major facilities to Socotra elites. Ben Brik added that vice president Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar asked the Arab Coalition to interfere to return the situation as it was before. Saudi Arabia sent a delegate to Socotra and explained to Socotra elites that the brigades to be assembled will never be from outside the island and its purpose was to prevent foreign mercenaries from reaching the island. We are still waiting for the outcomes of discussions. Its is supposed that the delegate will return to Riyadh accompanying Ben Daghar and his escorts as the governments seemed very provocative recently.
