Civil society organizations demand the restoration of the active role of southern women

SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The consultative meeting of civil society organizations throughout the south in the capital, Aden, stressed the necessity of restoring the active role of southern women in decision-making and demanding their legitimate rights.
The meeting warned that marginalization and exclusion policies deprive society of half of its energy, and hinder all regional, international and UN efforts aimed at stopping the war and putting a real solution to all issues, most notably the issue of the people of the south.
It explained in a statement that the women of the south tried to establish a real partnership with the women of Yemen, but these attempts failed, which prompted them to withdraw from the last women’s summit in Aden due to the absence of the partnership stipulated in the Riyadh agreements and consultations.
The meeting pointed out that the statements of the previous six women’s summits presented an unacceptable description of the war, claiming that it is a local struggle for power, while the international description confirms that the conflict is regional.
It pointed out that the war launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeted the south, its land and people, and aimed to destabilize the security and stability of the region and the world, and was not just a struggle for power.
The organizations participating rejected the new descriptions of the war, calling for a real partnership in drawing up the agendas of summits and conferences, and stopping the obstruction of the participation of southern organizations in international forums in favor of Yemeni organizations.
They pledged to work to create a southern civil bloc to extract women’s rights away from exclusion and marginalization, adding that the southern issue is recognized regionally and internationally, and any activity that detracts from it will lead to the creation of new crises.
