Department of Human Rights of the Southern Transitional Council Holds a Workshop about Risks of Drugs
[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Aden – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] Department of human rights of the southern transitional council held a workshop about risks of drugs on Wednesday July 18th, 2018, in Aden. Neeran Sawky, member of the council and Khaled Ba Muhdef, chairman of the political department of the council attended the workshop. Neeran Sawky indicated that the workshop came as part of the council’s interest in youth and community problems as drug addiction is a serious problem that threatens our southern society. She added that the state is built upon youth shoulders and asserted that “youth should face this phenomenon firmly… as you carried your weapons to liberate our land, you should fight this negative phenomenon”.
Zekra Matouk. Chairman of human rights department of the council welcomed attendants in her speech and asserted what Nerran Sawky indicated about the significant role of youth in the society as they are the pillars of the future. She asserted the importance of raising awareness against such negative phenomena and hoped that the workshop may achieve its objectives.
In his speech, Khaled Ba Muhdef expressed his happiness for the willingness of youth to attend such workshops. He indicated that politically, drug abuse is a non-traditional method to destroy the will of nations instead of traditional weapons. He added: “All types of addiction are used to destroy societies, families and human infrastructure so that persons become unable to deal with challenges they face and more vulnerable to defeat”. He said: “The south is facing such methods and department of human rights of the council is fighting such phenomena through raising awareness about its risks”.
Salwa Ben Brik delivered a detailed presentation about drug addiction and its volume in the society in addition to its victims, concept of drug abuse and a general framework of the phenomenon and the significance of fighting it by all means.
The workshop also included the legal framework of dealing with drug abuse, presented by Ali Al-Oly, who explained all legal aspects and penalties of this phenomenon in the Yemeni law. The workshop also included a video presentation about drug abuse and its risks.
