Expanded consultative meeting of civil society organizations about repercussions of Houthi escalation in the Red Sea

The Humanitarian Journalism Foundation (HJF), on Sunday, in the capital, Aden, organized an expanded consultative meeting for civil society organizations, to address: the repercussions and risks (economic, humanitarian and environmental) resulting from the escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab and its effects on security and peace in the region and the world.
Camellia Kamel, on behalf of the Humanitarian Press Foundation, welcomed all attendees, and through her, she addressed the definition of the expanded consultative meeting and its importance, while lawyer Afraa Hariri delivered a speech from the civil society organizations participating in the expanded consultative meeting.
Dr. Waed Badheeb, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the internationally recognized legitimate government, in a speech he delivered on behalf of the relevant government agencies, called on the international community to stand seriously with the incidents of piracy and attacks on free waters and their consequences on shipping and insurance operations.
During the expanded consultative meeting, 5 specialized papers were presented, which included a review of the repercussions of the current escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab on the environmental, humanitarian, economic, security and peace situation.
The civil society organizations participating in the meeting, through four working groups in which specialized papers were presented, discussed the repercussions of the escalation in the Red Sea on (the environmental, humanitarian, economic, security and peace aspects) to come up with recommendations and results regarding them.
The expanded consultative meeting was attended by representatives of the Office of the United Nations Envoy to Yemen, the Office of the United Nations Mission to Hodeidah, United Nations bodies and agencies, and international non-governmental organizations working in Yemen.
The meeting was also attended by the ministers of transport, water and environment, planning and international cooperation, social affairs and labour, agriculture, irrigation and fisheries, officials in the relevant government agencies, representatives of dozens of civil society organizations in Yemen, and a number of researchers and academics at universities and study centres.
The expanded meeting concluded with a press conference in which the final statement of its outcomes was announced through the media.
