SMA NEWS – Aden the Capital
The governor of Aden the capital, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas revealed that an agreement has been reached with the government to establish a clear mechanism to provide oil derivatives for power stations in the capital.
This came in a speech at the beginning of the emergency meeting held on Tuesday, which included the first undersecretary of the governorate, Mohammad Nasr Shazly, and directors of the Electricity, Water and Sewerage Corporation, and the Cleaning and Improvement Fund, as well as directors of the districts of the capital, and directors of the Haswa power station, and the generation and the control units at the electricity corp. of Aden.
The governor Lamlas said: “What the citizens are suffering from due to the deterioration in services and economic conditions does not satisfy us, nor does it exempt us from bearing the responsibility, whether as a local authority, or government and political forces, therefore, we must all avoid services of citizens from conflicts and narrow political interests.”
The governor of Aden the capital, continued: “We must all work as one team to serve Aden and its people.”
He added: “We have worked during the past few days with the government to put in place a clear mechanism to provide oil derivatives, we shouldn’t let whims and emotions waste the city, as we are on the verge of a hot summer and Ramadan period, and we must be ready to improve the performance of services, on top of which is electricity and water.”
The governor said: “We do not rob the citizens of their right to expression, but rather we support those who are peacefully protesting, and we stand by them in order to reach solutions that do not harm the citizens’ interests, and security and stability in Aden.”
The governor pointed out that: “An urgent amount of fuel has been provided, and within the next 48 hours, we will meet with a team formed by the prime minister to agree on an emergency and urgent mechanism to fund power plants in an orderly manner, since the work is fragmented and does not serve Aden.”
The governor stressed that Aden should be treated as a capital, and not as a governorate, as it is treated today, noting that the great population pressure on the city due to displacement requires the government to urgently review its share in revenues and services, stressing that what is spent on Aden does not exceed what is spent on small governorates, adding: “We told the government that, and we will talk to everyone. ”
The governor affirmed, “We have suffered during the past three days a lot, and we have endured a lot in order to have a position on the side of our people clearly, without disturbing the balance of the state in order to carry out its tasks, and we also carry out our tasks, and you, as local authorities, have to sit down with social figures, civil society organizations and committees, we must take care of them, and convey to them a clear idea of reality, so that it does not reach them in a wrong way and in a political manner that drives them to subversion and aggression.”
The governor concluded his speech by saying: “There are those who want Aden to live in a state of no peace and no war, and be managed by crises, so we have to do the opposite of what they are planning, because the imbalances must be put to an end, whether we are in the local authority or the central authority, and I think we have reached the end of the matter, and we will agree with the government, and if someone does not want this agreement to succeed, then we will manage our affairs our way. ”
In the meeting, a number of issues related to the electricity and water sectors were discussed, and clarifications were listened to by the managers of the two institutions on these issues.
