Governor of Aden Inspects Container Port, Directs Preservation as a Sovereign and Strategic Facility

Minister of State and Governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, conducted an inspection visit to the container port in the free zone this Wednesday morning to review its progress, address the challenges facing the port, and explore ways to enhance its performance.
During the visit, Governor Lamlas met with the Director General of Free Zone Customs, Mohsen Qahtan, and the Director of Free Zone Security, Colonel Jamal Dayan, and was briefed on the security and oversight measures in place to secure the port and regulate the entry and exit of goods.
The Governor stressed the importance of adhering to order and the law, and the need for full coordination between security and customs agencies to ensure the stability of the port, as it is a service and economic facility of a sovereign and strategic nature.
Governor Lamlas explained that the container port is a vital economic artery, and any disruption or tampering with it will negatively impact the country’s economic situation as a whole. He called for strengthening the technical oversight and transparency system, and adopting modern mechanisms to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer confidence.
In a related context, the Governor indicated that investigations are ongoing, under the supervision of the Specialized Criminal Prosecution and the Free Zone Security, regarding the shipment recently seized at the port. The shipment included military equipment, including drones. He emphasized that the competent authorities are following the case with high professionalism to ensure that all circumstances are revealed and those involved are held accountable.
Governor Lamlas directed that a reward be paid to the soldier who contributed to the discovery of the shipment, in appreciation of his vigilance, high security awareness, and his commitment to protecting the port and preventing the passage of any materials that would harm the security of the capital and the country’s stability.
At the conclusion of his visit, the Governor called on all relevant parties and port workers to assume their responsibilities and contribute to enhancing the port’s positive image as a sovereign facility that serves the interests of the nation and its citizens. He affirmed the local authority’s full support for all efforts aimed at developing the port and improving its services.
