Governor of Aden the capital calls for a regional conference to address the migration crisis

SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
Mr. Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, Governor of the capital, Aden, called for holding a regional conference under the auspices of the United Nations, to address the illegal immigration crisis, bringing together countries of source, transit, and arrival, to ensure a radical solution to the crisis.

He added in his meeting with the acting head of the International Organization for Migration mission, Mac Huber, today, Wednesday, that the problem of the influx of illegal immigrants from Africa, to the capital, Aden, and throughout the country, requires serious action to confront it and prevent its escalation.

He warned of the dangers and difficulties that the crisis poses to the host community, in the presence of the Director of Aden Security, Major General Mutahar Al-Shuaibi, that the organization’s treatment of the illegal immigration crisis in Aden and the rest of the governorates is below the required level.

He warned that the continuation of the situation deepens the problem, stressing that a meeting of the countries affected by the problem would lead to a practical plan agreed upon by all to address the phenomenon.

He expressed his regret at the absence of strategic programs in dealing with issues of displacement and illegal immigration, noting that the local authority put forward many plans and proposals to move from the emergency intervention stage.

For his part, Mac Huber presented the organization’s mechanisms for implementing voluntary returns of African migrants, pointing out the obstacles the organization faces, but providing support enhances solutions.
