Governor of Socotra Attends the Launch of Socotra Human Rights Observatory

[su_label type=”info”]Socotra – SAMA News[/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″][su_label type=”info”]Amman – SMA – PIC[/su_label][/su_spacer] Socotra Human Rights Observatory was launched today in Socotra with the attendance of representatives of local authorities and executive administration of the governorate. During the meeting, Ahmed Al-Socotry, governor of Socotra asserted the important role of the observatory in documenting and monitoring human rights violations in Socotra and Yemen as a whole. He also assured support of local authorities to the observatory to fulfill its objectives. The governor indicated that according to its rules and regulations, the observatory plays a major role and workers should exert honest effort to support transparency and to restore the rights of the weak. Salem Soliman, representative of Social affairs and labor department indicated that the observatory is a social organization that his department is relying on heavily for community service and support of social and cultural development of the governorate’s citizens. He also noted that the observatory fulfilled all documentation perquisites for starting work as indicated in relevant rules and regulations. Vice president of the observatory, Dr. Saad Amer Al-Durhy indicated that the observatory is the first in the governorate that seeks to establish concepts of human rights and to activate real partnerships for fostering tolerance and respect of human rights, in addition to initiating training programs for developing knowledge and skills of the governorate’s youth. He also praised efforts of local authorities in establishing and supporting the observatory.
General assembly of the observatory agreed on the nomination of the following personnel as a leadership for the observatory:
Shiekh Essa Salem Ben Yakout – president
Sr. Saad Amer Al-Dirhy – vice president
Hussain Ali Said – executive director
Shafik Mohamed Saad – financial officer
Anees Saad Amer – manager
Amira Ahmed Mahdy – head of women department
Salem Said – head of media department
Abdulhameed Ali Omar – head of training department
Abdulaleem Majed Mubarak – head of development department
Saleh Abdullah Hammoud – head of monitoring and evaluation
