Head of General Directorate of Foreign Affairs of STC receives Director of the Office of Special Envoy of Secretary-General of United Nations

The Head of the General Directorate of Foreign Affairs of the Southern Transitional Council (SCT), Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, on Wednesday, received in his office in the capital, Aden, Mr. Peter Rice, Director of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Aden the capital.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Mohammed Al-Abadi, Deputy Head of the General Directorate of Foreign Affairs of STC, and Anis Al-Sharafi, Political Affairs Officer in the Directorate, in which Al-Ghaithi welcomed the Director of the Envoy’s Office, praising the efforts made by the UN Envoy to find consensus among all political parties and push for stopping the war and bringing peace.
During the meeting, Al-Ghaithi reviewed the latest developments of the political situation, and the important results of the consultations sponsored by the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and hosted by the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which led to the reform of the presidency through the formation of a presidential leadership council from all the active forces on the ground to administer the country.
Al-Ghaithi pointed out that there is a need for the state of consensus and partnership to be reflected in the details and decisions to ensure that there is no conflict in powers and responsibilities, stressing in the context that partnership in the current stage does not cancel the political entitlements of any party, foremost of which is the right of southerners to determine their future and political destiny.
Al-Ghaithi reiterated that the Southern Transitional Council was and still supports the path to ending the war and establishing peace, and has repeatedly expressed this in its statements about various issues on the national scene, foremost of which is the UN truce.
The Head of the General Directorate of Foreign Affairs also reiterated the adherence of STC to all what was presented by it in previous meetings with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the ambassadors of the countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen, regarding negotiations of final solution, including the importance of the Riyadh Agreement, and the need to develop a special framework for the issue of the South as part of the negotiations, and as agreed upon by all the political parties in the Riyadh consultations.
In the context of the meeting, Al Ghaithi touched on the current priorities, foremost of which is addressing the economic status, providing services to citizens, and ways to create a recovery that would get the country out of its current situation.
For his part, Mr. Peter Rice praised the efforts of the Southern Transitional Council in supporting the peace process, and engaging in a real consensus process with other political parties in a way that enhances efforts to end the war and establish a comprehensive and lasting peace.
Mr. Rice pointed out that efforts are being made to extend the UN truce with the consensus of all parties on the ground, noting that this gives positive indications of the possibility of establishing a complete cease-fire, and provides a suitable atmosphere for preparations for final-status negotiations.
The meeting was attended by Omar Yaqoub, member of the media information department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, and Hadeel Samir from the office of the UN envoy in the capital, Aden.
