[su_dropcap]H[/su_dropcap]uman Rights Department of the Southern Transitional Council held a seminar in Aden in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the International Declaration of Human Rights, under the slogan “All Rise for Equity, Justice and Human Dignity”
Fadl Al-Gaadi, acting secretary general of the council, delivered a speech on this occasion saying: “we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the International Declaration of Human Rights. But let’s talk about UN and its attitude towards human rights in our country. They prepared Sweden consultations under the notion of human rights and humanitarian support for northern territories, or more accurately, some parts of northern territories. The truth came on the contrary. They only talk about human rights without enforcing them. we a have a cause that is in the core of human rights. We were a sovereign state recognized by UN and Arab League in addition to all humanitarian organizations. We went into 1990 union under national, patriotic and global convections. We delivered them our state and at the same year they turned against us with assassinations. Then war came followed by privatizing all that proves our history. Today, it is our right to celebrate human rights and declare that we are free to defend and restore our state no matter the costs are. At the same time, we respect others’ rights, minorities rights and refugees’ rights. We appreciate all that”. He hoped that the seminar may reach outcomes that defend the human rights and humanity.
Niran Sawqui, member of the council’s presidency, indicated that the council is concerned with human rights through observing and documenting violations in the south and communicated with UN Supreme Commission in Geneva. She said: “We delivered them full files to let our voice be heard all over the world. As the Supreme Commission received a memorandum with these violations, it sent a special envoy to see all documents of observed violations by the council’s department of human rights. Human rights work is related to observing, documenting and communicating human and professional behaviors violating these rights. I should express my deep appreciation for our judicial authorities whose men are working under very poor conditions but they keep working and doing their best to maintain human rights. Of course, there are some minor mistakes and our role in the council is to observe, revise and document them to guarantee transparency and accuracy of information. We should overcome negative aspects and reinforce positive ones to reach the best for all”.
Zikra Matouq, chairwoman of human rights department of the council indicated that Islamic and civil laws foster human rights as human rights represent the nature of humanity. She added that human rights appear in all aspects of human life. His led United Nations to issue the world declaration of human rights in December 10th with several rules and laws to preserve these rights. Human rights include the rights for living, education, freedom … etc. but recently, several violations disturbed these rights. We should work jointly to protect human rights.
Osama Ben Brik, acting chairman of martyrs and injured department at the general secretariat of the council, indicated that the council has a full database for all violations since 1994 war. He added that the department is willing to receive all files and data about martyrs and injured to document such violations.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Anis Lockman, vice chairman of the southern national assembly in addition to media men, judges and lawmakers. Zaher Al-Gunaid, a lawyer and human rights activist, talked about the international declaration of human rights.
