In the presence of Al-Jaadi … Woman and Child Department organizes workshop on “Reality of Children and their Problems in Time of War”

The Women and Children Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council organized, on Wednesday, in the capital, Aden, a workshop on “the reality of children and their problems in time of war,” with the participation of educators, school directors, security authorities, and civil society organizations concerned with childhood.

At the opening of the workshop, Mr. Fadl Mohammad Al-Jaadi, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, stressed the importance of assessing the conditions of children and the extent of the impact of the war on their lives, thanking the Women’s Department for organizing this workshop.

Al-Jaadi noted to the importance of the role of school and the community surrounding the child and family, especially the mother, in giving full care to the child and his protection from the surrounding dangers in anticipation of finding for him a safe future and ensuring the safety and balance of society.

Ms. Ishtiaq Mohammad Saad, Head of the Women and Children Department at the General Secretariat, thanked the Assistant Secretary-General for attending the opening of this workshop.

Saad referred to the objectives of the workshop, which focused on shedding light on the problems of children affected by war, and highlighting the extent of the suffering they have been exposed to from many aspects, pointing out that this workshop will discuss the characteristics, factors, dimensions and risks of these problems for children, and methods of confronting them in order to reach results that help reduce them.

In the workshop, Colonel Faris Abdul Jabbar, a security officer in the criminal investigation in the capital, Aden, spoke about the problems and incidents that children face in the neighborhoods and that have been reached by the security authorities, and ways to reduce them, as well as the role of the family in monitoring and protecting their children.

In his turn, Dr. Fadl Al-Rubaie, Professor of Sociology at the University of Aden, presented a working paper entitled “The Reality of Children and the Absence of Their Protection,” which dealt with a study of some children’s problems and the extent of the impact of war on children’s lives and psyche, and its impact on their thinking, behavior, relationships and scientific future.

This was followed by a series of discussion sessions, during which committees were formed to follow up the outcomes of the workshop that could help protect children in front of the official authorities.
