The governor of Aden the capital, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, and Dr. Qassem Muhammad Buhaibeh, Minister of Health and Population, chaired on Tuesday, an extended meeting with leaders of health sector and local authority in the capital.
The meeting was devoted to discussing developments in the health situation in the capital Aden, due to the increase in confirmed cases of the emerging coronavirus in its second wave.
The meeting was attended by the first undersecretary of the governorate, Muhammad Nasr Shazly, and the undersecretaries of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, and Dr. Ishraq Al-Sebaei, and Director of Aden Security, Major General Mutahar Ali Naji, and Aden Governor’s Adviser for Health Affairs, Dr. Osan Muhammad Nasser, in addition to Directors of districts, and the leadership of the Health and Population Bureau.
In the meeting, the Governor stressed the importance of holding this meeting concurrent with the dangerous and disturbing developments due to the accelerating spread of the pandemic and the noticeable daily increase in the confirmed infected cases.
The governor stressed that this situation requires doubling efforts and harnessing all available capabilities to confront it, intensifying awareness-raising activities about its dangers and ways to prevent it and adhering to precautionary measures, as well as the need to communicate with international organizations working in the health field and to coordinate their assistance in the control efforts.
The meeting discussed the contents of the statement of the Supreme Emergency Committee and its contents of directives, and the presentation of proposals to ensure their implementation.
The specialists in the Ministry of Health and Population and its office in Aden the capital, reviewed a set of measures taken in this context, as well as the needs and requirements that must be met in quarantine centers, and hospitals and various health facilities.
The meeting resulted in a number of decisions, most notably the formation of a committee headed by the first deputy of the governorate, and assigning it to prepare an integrated technical vision for an emergency program in the capital’s districts and its various outlets, preparing an operational budget proposal for it, and raising the most important requirements and needs of health facilities.
The meeting also approved the notification of the Education Office and the Presidency of the University of Aden of the need to expedite its academic and university year in order to preserve the lives of students in schools and university colleges, as well as directing the security of the capital to provide additional guards on the three quarantine centers and prevent gatherings in front of them.
In addition, the meeting approved directing the ministries’ offices, state facilities and institutions to provide thermal screening devices and protective tools for their employees and citizens, and to involve the Ministry of Health and Population in managing the emergency program, assigning Dr. Osan Muhammad Nasser as an official spokesperson for the Emergency Committee in Aden the capital, and rationalizing the media discourse in a way that ensures not to create panic and fear among the citizens, as well as other related decisions and assignments.
