SMA NEWS – Aden The Capital
The governor of Aden the capital, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, received at his office, on Wednesday, Mr. David Grisley, the resident representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and the humanitarian coordinator in Yemen.
In the meeting, Lamlas and Grisley discussed ways of cooperation and coordination between the local authority in Aden and the “OCHA” organization in the humanitarian and development aspects.
The governor of the capital expressed his happiness and welcome of Mr. Grisley’s first visit to Aden, wishing “this introductory meeting will not be the only one, and that other fruitful meetings will follow for the benefit of the citizens in Aden the capital.”
The governor Lamlas, said: “Aden is a city of peace and civilization, not a city of weapons and randomness. It rose and developed thanks to its port, peace and the culture of its people, but unfortunately and because of the war, much of the infrastructure has been destroyed, most notably the electricity and water sectors, and it was one of the first Arab cities to know services, and there is the problem of the displaced, in which Aden today is hosting hundreds of thousands of displaced people, and this has caused pressure on services and created noticeable deficiencies from which we suffer greatly.
Lamlas pointed out that:” There are interventions by some international organizations, but unfortunately it does not rise to the level of the citizens’ needs in Aden and does not touch their real problems, we want major interventions in areas that we define according to priority and need, we have addressed many organizations and asked them to coordinate with us through the Planning Office regarding their projects.”
Lamlas concluded his speech by saying, “I renew my welcome to Mr. Grisley, and we assure him that we will work together and carry out field trips together, and we are confident that we will create coordination and joint cooperation that will benefit Aden and its people.”
For his part, Mr. David Grisley expressed his thanks to Governor Lamlas for the warm welcome, and his offer to make field trips in the capital Aden, which is something he looks forward to, as it will allow him and his team to jointly prepare interventions.
Mr. Grisley indicated that he “will work to address some organizations regarding the water and electricity problems that plague Aden, and to find out what organizations have in these two areas.”
The meeting discussed a number of aspects of coordination in the humanitarian and development fields, and agreed to continue meetings and communication in the coming period.
The meeting was attended by Ms. Intisar Morshed, Director General of the Office of Planning and International Cooperation, and Mr. Matthew Leslie, Director of the Resident Representative Office in Aden.
