Lamlas discusses with the UN envoy a number of political files
The Secretary General of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, met on Tuesday, Mr. Fadi Al-Ayushi, the official in charge of the political section of the Office of the United Nations Envoy to Yemen, Mr. Martin Griffiths.
In the meeting which was attended by Major General Salem Abdullah Al-Sokatri, Assistant Secretary-General, the Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the interest of the UN envoy in following up the situation in the south and its continuous communication with the southern leaders in this regard.
Lamlas reviewed the obstacles of implementing the terms of the Riyadh agreement from the other side and its ignoring to the efforts of the joint committee headed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supervising the implementation of the military withdrawals.
The Secretary-General emphasized that the Southern Transitional Council has been positive in implementing the agreement and withdrawing military units from Abyan governorate, while the government military brigades remain in place until the moment.
Lamlas said: “We hope the United Nations and the Secretary-General’s envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths will put pressure on the other side to accelerate the implementation of all the terms of the agreement.”
For his part, Al-Ayoushi expressed the concern of the UN envoy, Mr. Griffiths, about the slow progress of the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and its negative repercussions on the peace process in Yemen, and the need for all parties to reach a comprehensive political and peaceful solution to all issues on the Yemeni arena.
