Lamlas discusses with the US ambassador economic, security and political challenges in our country

The Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, Governor of the capital, Aden, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, on Monday, at Ma’ashiq Palace in Aden the capital, received the Ambassador of the United States of America to our country, Mr. Stephen Fagin.
The meeting reviewed developments in the political, security and economic situation, in which Lamlas referred to deterioration of the economic situation as a result of the continuation of the war, indicating that the country has been greatly affected, and lost many of its sources of income, especially in oil and gas, calling for international support to face the multiple challenges, and strengthening the American support to our country to overcome these exceptional circumstances.
Lamlas described the electricity file as representing the greatest concern, as fuel for power stations costs $60 million per month, which reflects great burdens that impede the course of the reform program, looking forward to the success of the efforts to resume the fuel grant provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its role in stabilizing the electricity service.
The governor of Aden the capital pointed to the efforts to use clean and renewable energy by establishing a solar energy plant with a capacity of 120 megawatts, with a grant from the United Arab Emirates.
Lamlas said that the file of illegal immigrants from the countries of the Horn of Africa also is considered one of the most prominent problems of the local authority, stressing that they pose security risks, looking forward to the United Nations adopting a regional meeting for the affected countries concerned with the problem of illegal immigration from the Horn of Africa, to address this file.
The governor of Aden the capital stressed that the security services in the capital, Aden, face challenges too, foremost of which are the security threats of al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorists, and the Iran-backed Houthi militia, revealing continuous efforts to establish security, adding that they need support in the field of capacity building.
Lamlas affirmed the support of the local authority in the capital, Aden, for the efforts of the UN envoy, Hans Grundberg, and the brothers in the region, to push for an end to the war and the achievement of a comprehensive peace agreement.
For his part, the US ambassador stressed President Joseph Biden’s interest in supporting the humanitarian and development aspects through American institutions, and the efforts of the political process and the peace process.
