leadership of Transitional Council discusses with media professionals reality and ambition of southern media

The Southern Transitional Council organized on Wednesday, a Ramadan evening gathering, for political, media, economic, and cultural elites, under the slogan “Southern Media Discourse – Reality and Ambition”, with the participation of a number of media professionals from different trends and opinions, under the patronage of President Aidaroos Qassem Al-Zubaidi, the President of the Southern Transitional Council.

Dr. Nasser Al-Khobaji, Acting President of the Transitional Council, Head of the Negotiations Affairs Unit, welcomed the attendees and conveyed to them the greetings of President Aidaroos Qassem Al-Zubaidi, the President of the Transitional Council.

Dr. Al-Khobaji indicated that the meeting in this evening is important because it comes with a group of media professionals from different sects and opinions, with the aim of exchanging views and ideas regarding the reality and ambition of the southern media.

Dr. Al-Khobaji added: “The issue of media, its reality and ambition, is a complex matter, and it takes a lot of time and effort to discuss it, but we are here to listen to all opinions with open hearts and minds and with an open horizon.”

In turn, Eng. Adnan Al-Kaf, member of the Presidency of the Transitional Council, Acting Secretary-General, welcomed all media professionals, and the presence and participation of Dr. Nasser Al-Khobaji, Acting President of the Council, and Eng. Nizar Haitham, member of the Council’s Presidency, Head of the Transitional Council Executive in Aden the Capital, and Zakaria Al-Saadi, representative of the Media Information Department in the General Secretariat.

Al-Kaf stressed that the Transitional Council and the General Secretariat are keen on dialogue with all media professionals and openness to all visions and ideas aimed at unifying the southern media class in all its directions.

After that, the discussion was started, in which the media professionals discussed a number of issues related to the reality of the southern media, and the problems and complications it faces.

They also discussed how the media deals with issues on the southern arena, the level of southern media’s interest in the interests of its people, and the interaction of the people with the southern media.

The event discussed the problems facing the media, which limit its development, as well improving its performance level, and its sources of funding, and the role of sponsors and responsible authorities in supporting the media and upgrading its level and discourse.

At the end of the evening, Dr. Nasser Al-Khobaji answered the media people’s questions, indicating that the council is concerned about making the media take care of people’s issues, rather than polishing the Council or praising it.

Al-Khobaji called on media professionals to adhere to the spirit of the profession and its principles in not publishing false news, or stirring up regionalism, and sectarian strife, stressing the importance of constructive criticism and revealing objective imbalances, without prejudicing the national interest and the citizen.

In turn, Al-Kaf commented on the hate speech practiced by some media outlets, calling at the same time to agree on a unified code of honor for the media speech.

Al-Kaf stressed the importance of education and training from the beginning, pointing out that “there can be no professional media or media person as long as the education outputs are unhealthy and do not help producing a professional and qualified generation.”

In the conclusion of his comment, Al-Kaf called on the media to approach the citizen’s concerns about the lack of services, and the disruption of salaries, poverty and others, away from the inconsistencies and favoritism.
