Major roads are blocked in Mukalla due to protest against power blackouts
Angry citizens blocked a number of main streets in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Governorate, on Monday evening, to protest against the power system deterioration and blackouts that reached 12 hours a day without electricity power service, which caused great suffering, especially with the high temperature and humidity level on the coast of Hadramout.
On Sunday, the Hadramout Coast Electricity Corporation announced the start of a new operating system (two hours of operation and two hours of blackout), due to the depletion of fuel in the generation stations and the unavailability of diesel.
The Electricity Corporation said on “Facebook” that it has to operate upon this scheduling to avoid the complete shutdown and getting out of service of the entire power system.
A source said that the Corporation had not received a response from the local authority and the competent authorities that were informed of the imminent running out of fuel to operate the power stations.
The source stated that the Corporation’s fuel stocks are running out, and it has small quantities that were supplied by the oil company, but it does not cover the actual need.
The source pointed out that the corporation might be forced to cut off the current to all coastal cities during the day … in order to provide the remaining fuel to run the evening period in a two-hour system. before all power plants stop permanently.
