Minister Al-Socotri meets with the Assistant Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Major General Salem Abdullah Al-Socotri, met at the Ministry’s General Office in the capital, Aden, the Assistant Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations, Mr. Edigo Zorrell, and the chancellor Chris Johnson, and the Director of the FAO Office in Aden, Dr. Walid Saleh.

In his meeting with the UN delegation, the minister discussed the effects of the war on the infrastructure of the agricultural and fisheries sectors, in addition to the risks that threaten workers in these sectors, adding that the ministry works with all international organizations that support the agricultural and fish sectors, including the FAO, and are ready to overcome all difficulties to facilitate its work. .

Minister Al-Socotri discussed with the Assistant Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs the preparation of a strategic plan for the ministry that includes a matrix of agricultural and fisheries programs and projects within the framework of the gradual transition of interventions provided by international organizations from emergency humanitarian aid to deeper and more comprehensive projects to achieve food security, which will focus on increasing agricultural and fish production, as that contributes to increasing Gross domestic product and achieving economic recovery for the country, and would help in alleviating the economic problems facing our country, including the crisis of the collapse of the local currency against the foreign ones, which negatively affected the prices of various basic commodities and others.

Minister Al-Socotri also stressed the need to open the main offices of international organizations in the capital, Aden, emphasizing the necessity and importance of opening their accounts in the central bank in Aden the capital.

Minister Al-Socotri explained the ministry’s need to support public institutions and bodies, as well as agricultural and fisheries research centers, to be able to advance work and determine the country’s fish stocks.

The meeting also discussed ways and possibilities of reducing the costs of basic commodities by reducing the costs of insurance on imports of imported basic commodities.

For his part, the Assistant Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs expressed his happiness with this important meeting, during which he stressed the readiness of the international organizations of the United Nations to provide more support and humanitarian and development assistance that the country requires, and to give the development side the largest space in interventions during the coming stages.

The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Agricultural Production Development Sector, Abdul Malik Naji, the Undersecretary of the Fisheries Planning Sector, Mohammad Allan, and the President of the General Authority for Agricultural Research and Extension, Dr. Abdullah Alwan, directors general of animal health, veterinary quarantine, planning, plant protection, agricultural extension, and director general of the minister’s office.
