Minister of Social Affairs discusses with UNHCR the protection of vulnerable groups

Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, discussed with the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Marine Kaydom Shay, in a meeting on Monday, ways to enhance cooperation to protect vulnerable groups.

He stressed the government’s commitment to implementing the pledges it made at the Global Refugee Forum for 2023, calling on the international community to support it in achieving those commitments, including livelihoods for migrants and refugees and institutional building.

He called for supporting host communities due to the pressure placed on services by refugees and displaced persons, in addition to strengthening social protection systems targeting refugees.

He said that the government has made great efforts for displaced persons and refugees, and that it is time for the world to recognize these efforts and provide the necessary support for them to enable the establishment of a strong social support network.

In turn, Mary Kaydom Shay, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, praised the efforts of the Ministry in caring for marginalized groups and developing social policies, noting the convergence of priorities between the Ministry and the organization.

He expressed his admiration for the stable security situation in the capital, Aden, which prompted international organizations and agencies to activate their activities and programs from the capital, Aden, noting that he will seek to reach out to international donors to obtain more funding needed to support these activities and programs.

The two sides agreed to form joint points of contact between the Ministry and the Commission to work on coordinating work and efforts during the coming period.
