The member of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly, and Transitional Council official for human rights file, Lawyer Niran Sooki, met on Sunday, at the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees in the capital, Aden, with Ms. Mary Hussel Holdt, the official of Refugee Protection Department, and Ms. Marjorie Caprol of the Refugee Protection Department.
In the meeting, which included Dr. Aziz Ali Hadi, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, and Mr. Ramz Azhar Omar, the department’s external relations officer, Ms. Mary Hussel Holdt welcomed holding this meeting, which came on the sidelines of the field visit of the Human Rights Department of the refugee camp in Kharaz, and within the framework of the attention given by the Transitional Council to the humanitarian and human rights aspects.
Holdt provided a detailed explanation of the activities of the UNHCR office in Aden, and how to deal with refugees, migrants and displaced.
For her part, Sooki delivered a detailed explanation of the human rights and humanitarian activities of the Southern Transitional Council, and the importance being paid by it in this regard.
Sooki stated that the Southern Transitional Council always works to communicate with international organizations affiliated with the United Nations, in order to create channels of communication between the Council and the United Nations, in addition to its communication with all organizations concerned with human rights.
And in turn, Dr. Abdul Aziz Ali Hadi, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council expressed his happiness with this meeting, and thanked the Commission for its great humanitarian efforts and works, providing in the context a brief explanation of the most important activities of the department in the human rights and humanitarian fields.
For his part, Ramz Azhar stressed the importance of this meeting, which aims to strengthen the Council’s communication with the international community as partner in the government in accordance with the Riyadh Agreement.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Hussell Holdt gave to Ms. Niran Sooki, a number of books issued by the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees about its activities in Yemen.
