Peaceful Demonstrations of the Hungry in Al-Houta Demanding Dismissal of Corrupt Government
On Thursday August 9th, 2018, a peaceful march headed towards Al-Tahrir Square in Al-Houta – Lahj, demanding the dismissal of the corrupt government. The march, called for by brigadier Al-Gaadi, chairman of the public council of Teben, passed through the main road in Al-Houta and returned to the square in an open sit-in, in solidarity of Al-Berika citizens.
Protesters carried southern flags and banners demanding the dismissal of the corrupt government, in an expression of their suffering because of high prices of food and fuel in addition to deterioration of national currency and poor services, leading citizens to die of hunger every day.
Brigadier Al-Gaadi appreciated the efforts of all protesters who came to the square to participate in the march of the Hungry of Al-Houta and Teben. He added that he called for this march to stand against the corrupt government and to express solidarity with citizens of Al-Berika and other governorates.
He also said: this march came to refuse unfair policies of impoverishment, humiliation, hunger and slow death enacted by this corrupt authority of the legitimacy. We are following the path of peaceful struggle, just like our martyrs who sacrificed their soles in battlefields for the southern cause and living in dignity. But unfortunately, legitimacy authorities and thieves of Maasheek continue their misleading policies, leaving the people to hunger. We declare our determined refusal of all acts of this failure government. We also declare that we are in open sit-in till this corrupt government is dismissed.
