President Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi meets with the envoy and ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden

President Aidaroos Qasim Al-Zubaidi, the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Supreme Commander of the Southern Armed Forces, met on Wednesday, in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, the Swedish special envoy to Yemen, Mr. Peter Semneby, and the Sweden’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Henrik Lander Holm.

The meeting discussed the developments in the political, military and security situations in the south and Yemen, where President Al-Zubaidi affirmed the Council’s support for the efforts of the United Nations led by the Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths, and the Council’s readiness to actively participate in the political process, noting that respecting and considering the aspirations of the southern people is the solid foundation for any upcoming solution initiatives.

President Al-Zubaidi affirmed the Council’s position in supporting the ceasefire process, and the start of a comprehensive political process that accommodates all parties, stressing at the same time the need to find urgent solutions to the collapse of the humanitarian situation, basic services, currency, and the Corona pandemic that has killed the people.

The President warned of increasing the indications of the return of the terrorist activity, without the presence of a firm international position on the side of the southern forces, which had presented a unique experience in combating terrorism and extremism.

President Al-Zubaidi renewed his call through the Kingdom of Sweden to the European Union to create a real presence for the humanitarian role in the South, which would lift the situation and prepare the situation for a political process and successful solutions.

For his part, the Swedish envoy stressed the need to find an urgent solution to the difficult humanitarian situation, and to push towards creating appropriate conditions for a comprehensive political process that includes everyone.
