President Al-Zubaidi Discusses with Greek Ambassador Repercussions of Continued Houthi Escalation on IMSR

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), has met on Wednesday at his residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with H.E. Alexis Konstantopoulos, Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to Yemen.

During the meeting, bilateral relations with the Republic of Greece and ways to enhance cooperation in various fields, including the humanitarian and economic areas, were reviewed.

The meeting discussed the latest developments related to the terrorist attacks launched by the Houthi militia against international maritime shipping routes (IMSR) in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden, their catastrophic impact on the humanitarian situation in the country, and their repercussions on IMSR and maritime security.

President Al-Zubaidi was briefed by Ambassador Konstantopoulos on his country’s role in the military coalition formed by European Union countries to protect commercial ships in the Red Sea and curb the hostile acts of the Houthi militia. In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination and communication with the PLC and the internationally recognized government to deter Houthi threats.

In a separate context, President Al-Zubaidi expressed his appreciation for the role of Greece in supporting our people in the areas of training, qualification, capacity-building, and sustainable development projects and promoting the path of peace through programs sponsored by the European Union (EU), affirming that the PLC looks forward to a greater role for the EU in assisting livelihood improvement programs that have positively helped improve the living conditions of the poorest segments of the country.

For his part, the Greek ambassador has reaffirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the PLC in various fields and its readiness to continue supporting the government’s efforts in the areas of human and economic development and to back the stability of the country within the UN-led initiatives.
