President Al-Zubaidi meets the ambassador of UK to Yemen

The President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), President Aidaroos Qassem Al-Zubaidi, received on Thursday, Mr. Richard Oppenheim, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom (UK) to Yemen.
The meeting discussed the latest developments of the political process to bring peace to our country in light of the talks that the Saudi and Omani delegations are conducting with the Houthi militia to extend the truce and the cease-fire.
The meeting also discussed the position of the PLC regarding the negotiations and concessions made by it in order to ensure their success, and the steps taken by PLC to put the issue of the people of the South on the right track in the upcoming political process. In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi reaffirmed that the issue of the people of the South will be placed in a special framework in the political process from its inception, according to guarantees that ensure its particularity and in a way that meets the aspirations of the people of the South.
The meeting touched on the efforts made by the British government to support PLC and the government of power-sharing in the humanitarian and security aspects. In this context, Ambassador Oppenheim affirmed his country’s keenness to continue its support to our country in the areas of food security and women’s development and in the security fields, foremost of which is providing support to the Coast and Border Guards in a way to enable them performing their security tasks in addressing weapons smuggling and controlling the movement of goods entry through sea and land ports.
At the end of the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi highly valued the British role in supporting the PLC and the power-sharing government, praising the great efforts made by the British Royal Navy in confronting smuggling of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia, expressing his aspiration for a greater role of UK in strengthening cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, and in supporting the government in dealing with the problem of the influx of immigrants from the Horn of Africa to our country.
The meeting was attended from the British side by Mr. Peter Dalby, head of the political team at the UK embassy, and from the part of the PLC, Emad Mohammed, Director of the Office of the Vice Chairman of the PLC, and Saleh Al-Qaiti, Advisor to the Vice Chairman of PLC, and Zaid Ahmed Nasser from the Office of the President of STC.
