President Al-Zubaidi Meets with the Australian ambassador

SMA NEWS – RIYADH
President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Deputy Head of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) met at his residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Monday with H.E. Mr. Mark Donovan, Australia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Yemen, and the military Attaché Colonel Bradley Vizard.

The meeting discussed the concerted efforts of the United Nations, the regional and international communities to extend the UN truce and the Houthi position in declining all initiatives, as well as the latest developments in the political and military situation in light of the Houthi militias’ violations and provocative military mobilization on a number of frontlines.

In this respect, President Al-Zubaidi reiterated that the hands of the STC and the PLC remain outstretched for peace and welcomes any international initiatives to extend the truce on the condition that the Houthi militias abide by their commitments, emphasizing that the militias resorted to threats, intimidation, and force to quell popular discontent as their presence has been rejected in all governorates.

The meeting reviewed possible ways to support the PLC and the power-sharing government, in addition to the endeavours of the UN Special Envoy, Mr. Hans Grundberg, to cease the war and bring peace to the entire region.

Furthermore, the meeting turned the spotlight on assisting the government to deal with the crisis of illegal immigrants from the Horn of Africa and its repercussions on the humanitarian situation in the liberated governorates by strengthening joint cooperation with the UN organizations dedicated to immigrant affairs.

The meeting touched on Iran’s role in undermining peace in the region, and its persistence in providing the Houthi militias with weapons, military equipment, and experts in manufacturing missiles and drones, furthering their relations with the Lebanese Hezbollah.

For his part, the Australian ambassador affirmed his country’s support for the PLC and the government, together with the endeavours of the UN Special Envoy to bring peace to the region.
