Secretariat’s Human Rights Department Meets with Representatives of OHCHR

The Human Rights Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), represented by lawyer Zikra Ma’atouq, head of the department, met on Tuesday in the capital, Aden, with the Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Yemen, Mr. Renaud Detalle and Ms. Emma Walker, Human Rights Officer at the UNHCR Office in the capital, Aden.
At the meeting, lawyer Zikra welcomed Mr. Detalle and Ms. Walker, expressing her happiness with this visit, which enhances confidence in the field of exchanging information related to human rights in the governorates of the South.
The meeting discussed efforts to coordinate and strengthen the protection of human rights and joint cooperation to enhance the implementation of international laws and conventions that preserve human rights and human status.
For his part, Mr. Detalle expressed his thanks to the Department of Human Rights for the cooperation and ease it provides to support the efforts of the Commission in protecting human rights, and for its participation in the conference on justice and the rule of law that was held on Human Rights Day, where Mr. Detalle handed over the final draft of the conference outcomes.
Ms. Emma stressed the importance of continuing to exchange documented information about violations, expressing her thanks to the Human Rights Department and its team in the executive body of the STC of Al-Dhalea for the facilitation and information provided to the Commission’s monitoring team during its visit to the governorate to monitor the violations against civilians of Al-Dhalea from northwestern borders by the Houthi militia.
Dr. Abdulaziz Ali Hadi, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department and Head of the Monitoring and Documentation Department, gave a detailed explanation of the role that the department plays through the monitoring, documenting, and fact-finding process of violations committed by Houthi militias, terrorist organizations and forces of the Islah party loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood against the people of the South, and its reflection in human rights reports that are translated and exchanged with the concerned local and international organizations, in addition to performing awareness activities for security personnel, and continuous monitoring of the humanitarian conditions of prisoners in the governorates of the South.
