“Shaheen” causes widespread destruction in the streets of “Mukalla”

Torrential torrents, caused by heavy rain, swept the streets and lands of the city of Mukalla in Hadramout governorate as a result of the indirect effects of Cyclone Shaheen, which hit the neighboring Sultanate of Oman the past two days.

Residents said that the torrential rains flooded the city’s streets, swept away cars, and caused road cuts and power outages.

They reported that the civil defense in the governorate pushed its vehicles in an attempt to rescue trapped citizens in the Al-Dis neighborhood of Mukalla city, which was damaged in an unprecedented way by torrential rains.

Videos posted on social media showed torrential rain sweeping away cars and inundating a number of city streets.

Residents heard heavy gunfire, in an attempt to alert and warn citizens, with forecasts indicating that rain will continue in the coming hours and days.

The Center for Weather Forecasting and Early Warning, affiliated with the Meteorological Authority in Aden the capital, warned that 6 governorates in the country may be indirectly affected by Cyclone Shaheen.
