Sooki discuss with Deputy Coordinator of Protection Department at Red Cross issues related to prisoners and dealing with them

Lawyer Niran Sooki, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council, member of the Presidency of the Council, met on Tuesday, in her office at the National Assembly’s headquarters, with Ms. Agnieska Korkewicz, Deputy Coordinator of the Protection Department of the Red Cross (ICRC).
In the meeting, Sooki was briefed by Ms. Agnieska on the results of her field trip to Mansoura and Bir Ahmed prisons, and the aid materials provided by the Red Cross, represented in distributing clothes to prisoners and some cleaning tools. Sooki also discussed with her some issues related to prisoners and the reasons that led to their imprisonment, and how dealing with them in prisons.
On the issue of detainees in Shabwa prisons, lawyer Niran handed over to Ms. Agnieska, list of the names of detainees in the prisons of the Brotherhood militia, which also included a number of complaints submitted by the families of detainees who have not been released until now, while remaining without any legal charges or security cases.
Ms. Agnieska expressed the organization’s readiness to communicate with the concerned authorities as well as with the families of the detainees to find out the whereabouts of their sons and allowing them to meet, in accordance with what is dealt with by international humanitarian law.
At the end of the meeting, Sooki thanked Ms. Agnieska for her support, continuous communication and efforts in joint work and coordination between the Southern Transitional Council and the Red Cross.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Qassem, Director of the Office of the Chairman of the National Assembly.
