SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The member of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly, Lawyer Niran Sooki, met on Tuesday, in her office at the National Assembly, Ms. Beatrice Oxley, head of the Red Cross mission in the capital, Aden.
In the meeting, Sooki welcomed Ms. Oxley, and listened from her to an extensive explanation of the organization’s activity and role, specifically with regard to prisoners and detainees and how to protect civilians from clashes during armed conflicts and wars.
Oxley referred to the necessary assistance provided by the organization to prisoners, including cleaning materials and personal protection.
For her part, lawyer Niran praised the humanitarian role played by the organization in alleviating the suffering of prisoners, stressing that in the Southern Transitional Council there are no secret prisons as promoted by some hostile parties, noting that those responsible for the detention process are the official and legitimate authorities authorized to do so represented by the Security Administration of the capital, Aden.
On the issue of providing a decent life for prisoners, Sooki stressed that this issue is mainly due to the absence of the role of the government and the Minister of Interior from performing their role in the required manner, and their failure to bear moral and humanitarian responsibility towards prisoners and detainees.
Sooki added: “As Southern Transitional Council, we welcome humanitarian organizations that work to alleviate the suffering of citizens or prisoners alike,” stressing that the leadership of the Transitional Council is working to overcome the difficulties facing the work of humanitarian organizations so that they can perform their role to the fullest.
The meeting discussed the recent events in the city of Crater, and the coordination mechanisms between the head of the mission and the director of security for the capital, Aden, as he is the head of the security committee in charge of dealing with these events.
The meeting also touched on the issue of aid in the governorates of Abyan and Al-Dhalea, and the readiness of any organization to provide humanitarian assistance in conflict areas.
