Southern unions demand halting activities of illegal labor unions

Southern trade union federations, in a consultative meeting held on Sunday, affirmed their commitment to working under the legal umbrella, and the decision of the National Defense Council, and the circular of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor regarding the practice of work and activity of organizations and unions from the capital, Aden.

They rejected the practice of organizations, and unions in the capital, Aden, without legal legitimacy and in violation of the law and the decision of the National Defense Council and the government, in light of the continued control of their main centers by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias.

In a final statement of the meeting, they decided to stop dealing with trade unions that do not meet the legal requirements, transfer their main headquarters and conduct the electoral cycle in accordance with the provisions of the law and under government supervision.

The statement called on the Ministry of Social Affairs to oblige the ministry’s offices to implement the circular issued to halt illegal unions, whose central leadership headquarters are still in Sana’a, Yemen.

It called for taking the necessary legal measures against illegal unions and syndicates that abuse society and institutions in the capital Aden and the rest of the southern governorates.

The statement called for the accreditation of unions and syndicates that have official licenses from the Ministry of Social Affairs for internal and external representation, and their accreditation as a union representative for the professional and civil categories they represent and providing them with facilities to communicate and deal directly with all unions, syndicates and similar organizations inside and outside the country.

It called for addressing the government with the financial rights and various entitlements of unions and syndicates and stopping financial appropriations and disbursements from banks from the accounts of unions and syndicates that have lost their legitimacy and legal capacity.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic, the Syndicate of Southern Journalists and Media Professionals Media, the Syndicate of Southern Lawyers, the General Union of Southern Women, and the Union of Southern Writers and Authors.
