STC Acting President Discusses with the Somali Ambassador Issues of Mutual Interest

Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, met on Sunday, with Mr. Abdullahi Hashi Shuriye, Ambassador of the Republic of Somalia to Yemen.

In the beginning of the meeting, which was attended by Mr. Fadi Hassan Ba’oum, a member of the STC’s Presidium, Mr. Ahmed al-Rabizi, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Advisors, and Mr. Ahmed Hassan al-Marhabi, Head of the Security Department of the STC, Mr. Al-Kathiri extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Shuriye and reaffirmed the deep and distinguished bilateral relations that have existed with brotherly Somalia across all sectors.

The meeting discussed a range of issues and dossiers of mutual interest between the South and Somalia, foremost among which were the conditions of the Somali community in the capital, Aden, and the South in general, as well as the most prominent problems and challenges they face and ways to address them.

The acting president of the STC has highlighted the significance of joint security coordination between the two peoples, stressing the need to find effective solutions to the pressing issues of unlicensed migration, the daily influx of refugees, and the acts of piracy in the Arabian Sea, and the resulting dangers that threaten international shipping lanes, particularly in light of the Houthi militia’s ongoing threats to maritime navigation.

For his part, the Somali ambassador has appreciated the efforts exerted by the STC, led by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the STC and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), to ease all difficulties facing the Somali embassy in the capital, Aden, in order to carry out its duties and tasks in the best possible way, expressing satisfaction with the recent security improvements in the capital, Aden, and across South.
