STC Presidium Emphasizes Prompt Action to Stop Electricity Sector Deterioration
SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regularly scheduled meeting today, Thursday, headed by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the STC.
President Al-Zubaidi briefed the Presidium on the outcomes of his meetings held midweek with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg and the US and UK ambassadors, which focused on the political process, the UN roadmap, and the economic and political developments in the country in light of the ongoing Houthi escalation against shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
At the meeting, which was attended by the STC’s ministers in the government and the heads of the auxiliary bodies, the Presidium reaffirmed the points raised by President Al-Zubaidi during these meetings, asserting that it is useless to talk about a peace agreement and a political process in light of the Houthi escalation in international waters. The Presidium stressed the necessity of a comprehensive ceasefire and oversight by UN and international committees on the implementation of confidence-building measures to precede the political process.
The Presidium then reviewed the local developments and the escalating popular unrest due to the deterioration of service and economic conditions, especially in the electricity sector. The Presidium renewed its firm stance in solidarity with the people in their demand for legitimate rights and their expression of anger and rejection of the current situation through peaceful means. In this context, the Presidium urged the PLC and the government to assume their responsibilities towards the citizens and find quick and sustainable solutions to these pressing issues.
In another context, the Presidium discussed the preparations being made by the Supreme Committee for Summer Centers (SCSC), which are scheduled to be held in all liberated governorates next July. In this regard, the Presidium stressed the need for local authorities in the governorates to oversee these centers, their activities, and programs to ensure that they are not exploited or diverted in favor of the agendas of specific political parties or factions.
Furthermore, the Presidium reviewed the outcomes of the tasks assigned to the designated individuals at the previous meeting and the level of response to the call extended to southern investors, businessmen, and regional and international companies to invest in economic sectors. The Presidium lauded the prompt response by investors to the call and their keenness to contribute to the development of economic resources in the South.
At the end of its meeting, the Presidium listened to a report presented by Mr. Lutfi Shatara, Head of the Research and Decision Support Center (RDSC), which included the controls and determinants of national partnership as per the principles enshrined in the Southern National Charter, and approved the appropriate measures in this regard.
