STC’s Presidency Emphasizes Expediting Urgent Economic Reforms

Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) stressed on the aboslute necessity to urgently implement economic reforms by the power-sharing government, contributing to reviving the economic situation and alleviating citizens’ distress.

The presidency of the STC in the meeting held on Saturday and chaired by Major General Ahmed Saeed Ben Brik, Chairman of the National Assembly, called on the government to expeditiously implement a comprehensive structuring in the board of directors of the Central Bank, the Central Organization for Control and Auditing, the Supreme National Anti-Corruption Commission (SNACC) and the Supreme Economic Committee, in accordance with equal-sharing principle between the the North and the South, as per the outcomes of Riyadh Agreement.

In this context, the presidency affirmed its categorical rejection of the suspicious movements that are taken place abroad by several officials in the board of the Central Bank, which are in harmonious with some cacophony voices calling for unifying banking process between the Central Bank, which is under the control of Houthi militias in Sana’a, and the Central Bank in Aden, warning those parties that are seeking to implement such suspicious agendas of unfortunate consequences.

In the meeting, which was attended by Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, the Secretary-General of Presidency of the STC, minister of State and governor of the capital Aden, Dr. Mohammed Al-Zou’ari, minister of Social Affairs and Labour, the STC’s presidency, called on the power-sharing government to assume their responsibilities in providing oil revenues to the central bank in Aden, to find quick solutions to the deteriorative situation in electricity of Aden, speed up operating refinery of Aden, and to halt issuing lands in the capital, Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Al-Mahra governorates, as well as activating role of the Land Inventory Committee to perform its tasks in those governorates.

In a separate context, the presidency of the STC stood before representing the southern media and performance of the STC’s media in light of a report submitted by Mr. Ali Al-Kathiri, member of Presidency of the STC, head of the National Southern Media Authority (NSMA), in which the presidency of the STC was briefed on the prominent achievements that have been fulfilled by NSMA in different sectors, discussed the major difficulties and challenges encountering the work and performance of these sectors, and ongoing efforts to promote discourse of the southern media to cope with the political achievements that the STC has regionally and internationally fulfilled.

To the end of its meeting, the presidency of the STC has touched on several topics on its agenda and took the necessary measures in such regard.
