STC’s Presidency Studies Outcomes of Secretary-General Meeting with UN Envoy in Aden the capital

The Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) shed light on the outcomes of the meeting of the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the STC, the governor of the capital, Aden, Mr. Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, and his accompanying team, which was held past Wednesday at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Foreign Affairs (GDFA) in the capital, Aden.

In its regular meeting held today, Tuesday, and chaired by Mr. Lamlas, the Presidium listened to briefings on the meeting with the UN special envoy, which was attended by two members of the STC’s Presidency , Mr. Fadhl Al-Gaadi, deputy secretary general, and Mr. Lotfi Shatara, deputy chairman of the National Assembly, on the ongoing regional and international endeavours to extend the truce and prepare for the comprehensive political process to end the war and bring peace to the entire region.

The Presidency reiterated the STC’s firm position expressed by the Secretary-General with the UN envoy towards truce-extending endeavors and launching the political process, underscoring that any political solution that takes no consideration of the formed reality on the ground post 2015 or relies on references that have categorically been transcended by events on the ground could not be crowned with success, and it will lead to more complications and may establish a new phase of conflict in the region.

In another context, the Presidency reviewed the phases of the housing project on Mayon Island in Al-Mualla district, which is being implemented with the full sponsorship and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the brotherly United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the direct supervision of President Aidaroos Qassem Al Zubaidi, President of the STC, and which includes the construction of 140 housing units, of which 25 were submitted as a first phase last week, in addition to the infrastructure projects and all the ancillary services that are going to be implemented during the coming period.

The Presidency affirmed that this project and the previous development and relief aid provided by the UAE to the people of the governorates of the South had a great impact in overcoming many challenges in light of the critical circumstances that our country is passing through it.

Similarly, the Presidency focused on the latest developments in the capital, Aden, and other governorates of the South, lauding the immense efforts exerted by the communal committees in the capital and their role in proactively working among the community and contributing with the security services and loyal citizens to maintain security and public tranquility in residential areas, underscoring its categorical rejection of all attempts aimed at weakening and diverting its role, and warning suspicious parties not to follow the path of any chaotic direction.

It cannot be ignored that the Presidium listened to the monthly report submitted by a member of the Presidency, Dr. Mona Awad Basharaheel, general supervisor of the Training and Qualifying Center (TQC) in the STC, on the performance and activities of the TQC during the month of January.

To the end of its meeting, the Presidency touched on several topics and issues related to the work of the STC’s bodies and took the appropriate measures.
