SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Salem Al-Soqtari, on Sunday morning, witnessed the resumption of the fishing port to receive ships, after stopping 11 years ago, with the docking of a ship loaded with about 40,000 head of livestock.
The dock received the first ship two days ago, after lifting and removing the wreckage of three ships during the last period, amid intense work to recover the rest of the sunken ships in the port since 2012.
Al-Soqtari said, during a tour at the fishing dock, that the ministry is keen to operate the fishing port, which has been suspended since 2012, and to quickly complete the work of recovering 22 sunken ships in the port, announcing the allocation of the port for fish and animals.
He revealed a project to rehabilitate the port once the sunken ships were recovered, with the support of the German Development Bank.
Minister Al-Soqtari directed that all facilities be provided by the competent authorities in the ministry and the General Authority for Fisheries in the Gulf of Aden to complete the stage of recovering the wreckage of sunken ships.
