The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology meets the British Meteorological Authority

The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology hosted a meeting to discuss the tasks of the meteorology sector, which included representatives of the World Food Program and the Meteorological Authority in the United Kingdom on weather forecasts and early warning systems.

The meeting was attended by Eng. Tariq Abdo Ali, Undersecretary of Air Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Undersecretary of the Meteorology Sector at the Authority, Shakib Al-Tayeb, and Senior Policy Officer of the World Food Program in Yemen, Mr. Rashid Hammad.

The meeting discussed current climate projects and the extent of sharing data available to the meteorology sector and opportunities for cooperation with national and international partners and joint cooperation between the Authority represented by the meteorology sector and the British Meteorological Authority and weekly bulletins and rainfall maps and opportunities and initiatives available to support the sector in the future and seasonal forecasts and temperature maps.

The Authority’s specialists reviewed the bulletins issued by the Forecast Center of various types and mentioned examples of the incentive mechanism for some weather risks that Yemen is exposed to and dealt with locally through climate data and experience in dealing with risks, forecasting and monitoring them.

The technical needs, opportunities and challenges facing technical support in various aspects related to long-, medium- and short-term forecasts, the infrastructure of the sector, expanding the network of meteorological stations to monitor various weather elements and coordinating with the parties affected by these risks to receive bulletins and warnings in a timely manner to take the necessary proactive measures, each in his field and specialization, and other means of support were also discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Meteorology Sector, Mr. Shakib Al-Tayeb, thanked the efforts made by the World Food Organization to support the sector’s efforts to save lives and property.
