The Governor of Socotra discusses ways to get rid of the ship “Hamam Al-Khaleej”

SMA NEWS – SOCOTRA

Raafat Al-Thaqali, Governor of Socotra Archipelago, and the committee charged with dealing with the ship “Hamam Al-Khaleej” that ran aground on the coast of Delisha, east of the island, on Sunday, held a meeting to discuss procedures for getting rid of it while preserving the marine environment.

Al-Thaqali received a comprehensive briefing from the committee headed by Governorate Undersecretary Raed Al-Jaribi about the plans to cut up and remove the oil ship that has been stuck since the beginning of November 2019, given its unsuitability for sailing.

The attendees agreed to withdraw the quantities of harmful and polluting oils remaining on board, and to continue cutting and seizing them until all financial obligations are paid.

The ship with a load of petroleum derivatives ran aground on Delisha Beach 5 years ago, after it was swept away by waves as a result of bad sea conditions and strong winds.
