SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The General Authority for Maritime Affairs organized a celebration on the occasion of International Seafarers’ Day, on Tuesday, in the Ministry of Transport building in the capital, Aden.
The ceremony began with the screening of a documentary film introducing the profession of sailors, the efforts made to advance global trade, and the challenges they face during their sea voyages in order to transport the world’s needs for energy and food commodities.
The ceremony previewed the role of the Ministry of Transport, through the Maritime Affairs Authority, in training and qualifying sailors, to provide support and everything that would ensure the continuity of maritime navigation movement and the smooth flow of work in ports, and thus the continued flow of consumer materials, goods, food and medical supplies.
Abdul Salam Humaid, Minister of Transport, said that the celebration serves as a reminder of the role of sailors in delivering goods and merchandise in the face of disasters, natural challenges, wars and armed conflicts at sea.
He pointed out that the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia targeted international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which led to the injury of many sailors and the distortion of the path of trade from the Red Sea.
Minister Humaid was keen to honor a group of sailors and workers in maritime affairs with certificates of thanks and appreciation.
