The Minister of Agriculture and the IFAD delegation discuss the progress of development projects

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Salem Al-Soqatri, on Monday, welcomed the delegation of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), headed by Tawfiq Al-Zubri, and Ali Jaloul, Director of the FAO office in the capital, Aden.
Al-Soqatri reviewed the level of implementation of projects in the agricultural and fish sectors, the shortcomings and negatives of the projects being implemented in the agricultural sector, and evaluated the level of response in providing support to interventions from donors.
The meeting discussed the mechanism for implementing development projects in the targeted governorates, according to the needs of local communities, from agricultural sector projects, and supporting farmers in introducing climate agriculture with drought-resistant seedlings, and building irrigation water tanks.
Al-Soqatri stressed the need for coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, donor countries, international organizations and the Social Fund for Development, to determine the priorities of projects required in local communities, to achieve sustainable development and improve livelihoods.
He pointed to the negative repercussions of climate change on the agricultural sector, expressing the Ministry’s keenness to review various projects and plans for cooperation programs with donors.
During the meeting, IFAD and FAO officials discussed the progress of project implementation in a number of governorates, with the aim of meeting the needs of local communities, and emphasized making more efforts and coordination with the Ministry in accordance with cooperation protocols.
