The Minister of Transport reviews work progress of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation

The Minister of Transport, Dr. Abdul Salam Saleh Humaid, met at the Ministry’s headquarters in the capital, Aden, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation, Eng. Salem Basmir, and was briefed on the work progress in the ports under the Corporation’s authority in the eastern governorates in Mukalla Port in Hadhramaut, Nashtoon Port in Al-Mahra, and Socotra Port.

The Minister of Transport listened from Eng. Basmir to a brief on the steps recently taken by the corporation’s leadership in preparing technical and economic studies for Broome Port project in Mukalla and Qena Port in Shabwa Governorate, in addition to the Mukalla Port expansion project.

Minister Humaid also reviewed the shipping traffic activity in the port of Mukalla, and the facilities and privileges provided by the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation to shipping lines and importers to increase commercial activity.

The Minister of Transport praised the efforts made by the leadership of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation to stimulate navigation and commercial traffic in the port of Mukalla and the ports affiliated with the Corporation, expressing the readiness of the Ministry and the government to overcome all difficulties and provide all necessary facilities for all efforts made by the Corporation’s leadership to develop its activity in the field of maritime transport. At the same time, Humaid appreciated the role of the local authorities and governors of the governorates of “Hadhramaut, Shabwa, Al-Mahra and Socotra” in providing facilities to the institutions and bodies of the transport sector to perform their tasks in those governorates.

The Minister of Transport stressed the advancement, development and raising the efficiency of performance, pointing to the importance of correcting imbalances and deficiencies, to keep pace with the government’s directions in correcting imbalances and developing revenues generated from sea and land ports. He also stressed that the Ministry in the coming days will work to complete a number of reforms in sea and land ports in implementation of the decisions of the Council of Ministers with the aim of improving revenues, as well as improving the services provided to the commercial and community sectors in those ports.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation reviewed the steps that were taken to develop the workflow of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation, praising the interest, keenness, and constant follow-up of the Ministry’s leadership on everything related to the Corporation’s workflow.
