The Ministry of Planning rejects the ESCWA draft vision for recovery and development

SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mr. Waed Badib, rejected the draft vision for recovery and development, in a letter addressed to Dr. Rula Dashti, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA.

The letter expressed appreciation for the efforts of the ESCWA team to enhance the distinguished cooperation between the two sides, pointing out some defects and gaps in the draft vision that may raise political and social tension at this critical stage.

Badib pointed out points that require revision in the vision, including the lack of prior coordination in holding consultations and selecting participants, and the draft vision’s inclusion of political and historical analyzes and narratives that are not appropriate to the scope of the economic, social, and institutional vision.

The Minister of Planning pointed out the presence of biases and selectivity in reviewing heritage and historical events, which burdens the draft with unacceptable interpretations that do not serve the required political consensus.

The Minister praised the efforts made in preparing the draft on the economic and social aspects, exploitation of natural resources, the environment, and issues of governance and good management, and called for a comprehensive review of the draft based on the aforementioned observations.
