The National Investigation Committee meets the sanctions team of the UN Security Council

The National Committee to investigate allegations of human rights violations met on Monday, at its headquarters in the capital, Aden, the team of the sanctions committee of the UN Security Council, on the sidelines of the team’s visit to the country.

The expert group listened to the developments in the work of the National Commission of Inquiry, and discussed issues of cooperation between the two sides in relation to human rights violations.

In the meeting, the deputy head of the committee, Judge Hussein al-Mashdali, stated that the committee is still carrying out investigations into violations that occur in Yemen, as a single body, which is its identity according to the decision to establish it.

He pointed out that the committee believes that this meeting is part of the forms of cooperation between the two sides, especially with regard to the mechanism for exchanging information, given the committee’s field presence in all governorates.

For their part, the sanctions committee team participating in the visit expressed their thanks to the committee for providing the opportunity of this meeting, noting that they have been in constant contact with the committee since 2016, appreciating this cooperation.

At the same time, the team pointed out that it relies on the committee as a source in documenting a number of facts, stressing the team’s keenness to develop this relationship.

During the meeting, the members of the committee indicated that the committee will issue its ninth report in the coming days, in which it will explain the most important field difficulties and challenges that the committee faced during the past year and the nature of the committee’s relationship with all parties to the conflict.

The committee provided an explanation of the trial mechanisms that it is working on and its role in achieving justice and redress for the victims.

The team also asked members of the committee to share information on sexual violence and violations against children in particular.

The meeting discussed the problems and difficulties facing the work of the committee and the team on the ground, and the search for a mechanism to enhance cooperation more between the two sides, and communication will be held later between the two sides regarding the sharing of information on some important issues on the local arena.
