The Southern Political Forum Discusses Role of the Southern Army and Implications of Targeting It

SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The Southern Forum for Political and Social Awareness Development held a discussion panel in the capital, Aden, entitled: “The Army of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen: Protector of the Nation and a Terrific Force in the Region, and the Forces That Conspired to Destroy and Exclude It from the Battlefield – A Reading of the General Southern Scene.”
The panel addressed the current political situation in the south, emphasizing that indicators point to positive developments in the near future that will benefit the people of the south. It also announced the imminent establishment of the “Council of Elders of South Arabia” as a further step toward unifying the southern ranks on the basis of reconciliation and tolerance.
The panel reviewed a research paper on the origins and development of the Southern Army, which was one of the most powerfully organized and professional armies in the region, based on a modern combat doctrine. This army was established after independence from Britain on November 30, 1967, and was composed of the Liberation Army forces, regular battalions, and the Hadrami desert, leading to an integrated structure that included the land, naval, air, and air defense forces, and the popular militia, in addition to the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff.
